Our Podiatrists are Experts at Diagnosing and Treating Sports Injuries
You wouldn’t go to a voice teacher who wasn’t a singer himself. You wouldn’t call in a plumber who hadn’t yet learned to use a hacksaw or pipe wrench. So why would you choose a podiatrist with little sports experience to heal your sports injury?
You don’t have to. Our three podiatrists have extensive experience diagnosing and treating various types of sports injuries to the feet and ankles. They understand the biomechanics because they’ve studied them. They’ve played sports themselves, know the types of injuries that can happen, can recognize them in our patients, and apply the best practices available to treat them. Finally, they enjoy taking on the special challenges that sports injuries present.
- Craig Frey. Much of Dr. Frey’s day-to-day focus is on treating athletes. He played hockey in college and was also a member of Team USA World Inline Hockey Team. His team won both a gold and silver medal – but these days, his reward comes from helping athletes get back into the game after a foot or ankle injury. He is an expert surgeon with special interests in minimally invasive foot and ankle surgery, fracture care, traumatic injuries, and total ankle replacement
- Megan L. Oltmann has a special interest in sports injury management. In college, she majored in biology and minored in dance. She has a thorough understanding of the special demands placed on dancers’ feet and ankles. She grew up dancing and playing volleyball and today continues to work out, swim, ride her Peloton, golf, and play indoor and beach volleyball. Her areas of surgical expertise encompass all types of lower extremity trauma, reconstructive surgery, fracture management, and micro nerve surgery, among others.
- Jim Swienconek. As an undergrad, Dr. Swienconek studied biology and chemistry and also played baseball. Today, he enjoys working out, playing softball, snowboarding, and golfing. His love of fitness carries over into his podiatry work. It informs his approach to patients who have acute sports injuries or chronic conditions related to the sports they play. While completing his surgical residency, he focused on forefoot and rearfoot reconstructive ankle surgery.
