Celebrate National Men’s Health Month
Men’s health is such an important issue that the U.S. Congress recognizes it. Every state in the Union – and many cities, too – has issued a proclamation identifying why we should set aside an entire month, June, for awareness of men’s health. Here are some of the startling facts included in these proclamations:
- Women are twice as likely as men to visit a doctor for a medical concern.
- Even though medical care has improved over the years, women still outlive men by more than five years.
- Fear, lack of information, and cost are three reasons men are less likely to consult a doctor for regular preventative screenings.
- Men who educate themselves about their health are more likely to get regular checkups from their doctors.
- Knowing how to live a healthy lifestyle and detect health problems early results in fewer deaths.
The bottom line
Health problems that affect men, including many cancers, could be treated and cured if only men were more aware. The same is true when it comes to many foot problems. When you’re more aware of the problem, you’re more likely to seek help. Early treatment of wounds that don’t heal, plantar fasciitis, stress fractures, sports injuries, and neuromas, for example, offers you the best chance of a full recovery.
Our experienced podiatric surgeons, Dr. Craig B. Frey, Dr. Megan L. Oltmann, and Dr. Jim Swienconek, maintain an entire online library of foot and ankle information. We encourage men everywhere to read it to educate themselves on how to keep their feet healthy.
