It’s easy to overlook a problem your child may be having with their feet. For one thing, a child may not realize it himself. Also, he or she may be too young to come up with the right words to tell you that something hurts. However, as a parent, you can play a vital role in detecting foot problems in your child and acting before the issue becomes more challenging to solve. Here are four signs that there may be a problem:
- Your child is more sedentary than usual. She’s withdrawn from playing games she usually enjoys.
- He’s falling behind. For example, your baseball player isn’t progressing in the sport and his teammates, or he can no longer keep up with his peers on the track.
- They’ve gotten clumsy. A tendency to trip and fall can indicate a muscle imbalance or biomechanical issue with a child’s lower limbs.
- She won’t let you see her feet. Fear of the doctor’s office often prevents a child from letting you know about a foot problem. For an older child active in sports, they may hide a problem because they’re afraid of missing part of the season.
