The Importance of Foot Health Awareness

There’s so much to keep up with these days. Our brains are teeming with bits of international news, family concerns, summer vacation planning, the to-do list at work, and the to-do list at home. Oh, and were you aware that we recently celebrated Earth Day, the first 100 days of the new administration, and national foot health awareness month?
Okay – we saw you roll your eyes just now. Foot health awareness? Are you serious right now? Is there really room in our collective consciousness for such a thing?
Why we like the National Foot Health Awareness campaign
At Foot & Ankle Associates of Cleveland, we really want to increase your awareness about all you can do to keep your feet and ankles healthy! It’s precisely because of your eye rolling that we’re delighted to align ourselves with the American Podiatric Medical Association’s annual spring campaign for National Foot Health Awareness.
Foot Health Awareness is important because
- Your feet carry you around with grace and precision. When that precise collaboration of muscle, tendon, ligament, joint, and bone gets out of whack, your feet hurt, your activity slows down, and your quality of life can greatly suffer.
- Practicing good foot care can prevent a lot of problems. Being aware means you’re more likely to wear the right shoes, to cut your toenails the best way, to stop exercising before an injury occurs, or to recognize the signs of a major illness like diabetes.
- People tend to procrastinate about foot pain. If you make a conscious effort to think about your foot health, then you’re more likely to take pain seriously, to know where to go to get great foot and ankle care, and to seek out help before a minor issue becomes a major one.
