Pamper Your Feet with an At-Home Pedicure

At Foot & Ankle Associates of Cleveland, we think that people all over our patient area of Cuyahoga, Summit, Portage, and Geauga Counties fall into one of these two categories: 1). The last thing on their mind throughout the coronavirus pandemic has been their feet, or 2). They’re keenly aware that they’re in desperate need of a good pedicure.

No matter which category you identify with, take a second right now to examine your feet. If your heels are dry and cracked, if your toenails are so long that you’d be more comfortable wearing shoes ½ a size bigger than usual, if you’ve got hard calluses building up on your toes, AND you don’t have diabetes, then treat yourself to an at-home pedicure right away. Here’s how:

  1. Soften your skin by soaking your feet in warm water for about 10 minutes. If you have essential oils or bath salts, add those to the water for extra soothing relief.
  2. Rub your feet all over with foot file or pumice stone to remove dead skin cells. If you don’t have these tools on hand, gently scrub your feet with a washcloth. Concentrate on areas where the skin has built up into corns and calluses to reduce their thickness.
  3. Trim your toenails, making sure to cut them straight across. Curves and angles put you at risk for ingrown toenails.
  4. Moisturize your feet using a thick cream or lotion. Avoid getting moisturizer in between your toes.
