Get Moving for Heart Health!

February is American Heart Month, a time to focus on what’s good for our cardiovascular system. This year, the theme is “Move With Heart!” The goal is simply to get people to think more about moving – and about moving more!

Why? – Because movement and exercise help to keep our heart in great shape. And what’s good for the heart is also good for the feet. Feet are, of course, our main focus here at Foot & Ankle Associates of Cleveland, but we’re here to remind you that anything you do to keep your heart healthy will also help to maintain healthy feet.

Take the #MoveWithHeart Challenge

That’s why we support the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute’s campaign they’re calling “#MoveWithHeart.” We invite you to take their challenge, which consists of three steps:

  1. Record a video of yourself taking the #MoveWithHeart pledge: “I pledge to move more for my heart health.”
  2. Upload your video to Twitter or Instagram, using the hashtag “#MoveWithHeart.”
  3. Share your pledge with friends and family and get them to take the pledge, too.

That’s it! Just a few minutes of your time will serve to motivate you and your loved ones to get moving for heart health.

It’s easy to get moving

Moving more doesn’t have to take huge amounts of your day. In fact, if you add just 2 ½ hours of movement over the course of an entire week, your heart will benefit. That might mean walking just 30 minutes 5 times a week. Or, split it up – 15 minutes in the morning, 15 minutes in the evening. Give up the elevator and take the stairs. Invest in a tracking device that counts your daily steps and helps you reach your goals!

Make sure your feet are ready

Moving more is easier when your feet can take it. If you’ve got painful corns, nail fungus, heel pain, bunions, or anything else that hurts from your ankles to your toes, taking the pledge might be hard. So get your feet fixed first.
